Vale of Wolves
Tradition has it that Creation is split into a number of worlds, ranging from the inchoate, unknowable Deep, home to the primordial forces of creation known as the Low Gods, through the homes of the mortal Races to the rareified intangibility of the Vast, home of the ancient High Gods. Names for the known worlds vary, as do their ordering, the relationships and contacts between them, and indeed even the number of Worlds; there is no sure way to tell. The best known atlas of creation, the Taxonomy of Prior Baras, lists them as follows:
World of Silence
World of Composition, now the World of Whispers
World of Refinement
World of Strife
World of Tumult
World of Foment
World of Fury
The Taxonomy has recieved criticism for not placing our own world, that of Refinement, at the centre of Creation, but others, especially those who have had contact with dwellers of other Worlds (such as the Unrefined Gen, the Devils of the World of Whispers, and the Wandering Ravenfolk) have supported this positioning.
Travel between the worlds is difficult if not impossible by mundane means, although naturally occuring geomantic positions can allow “tears” to occur. Some individuals, most notably The Prophet, have been known to ascend from the World by the power of Refinement, although few have returned.
