Vale of Wolves
The Old Gods of the Dwarves, the Eternals, the Angelic Masters, The Celestial Powers, the Lords of the Vast; the High Gods are the the perfect expression of form and order in Creation.
The High Gods are not recognised as creators of the world or the mortal races; they are instead honoured as their saviours, the bulwark against the destruction of the Low Gods. Indeed, some claim that until the mortal races were able to concieve of them, the High Gods existed as “form without form”, pre-existing but beyond possibility. When the mortal races, first the Dwarves and then swiftly others, came to them for aid against the Primordials, they were swift to act, granting them the power of faith to quell the chaos of the world and build strong upon it. The forces of Order were not unified, however, and were by no means benevolent. Conflict between them led to the cataclysm which ruined the World of Composition, allowing the resurgent Low Gods to unleash the Chaos Plague which devastated and nearly destroyed all of the Worlds until The Prophet intervened.
The practices of Refinement resemble in no small way the faith of the Old Gods; this is not a co-incidence, as The Prophet was himself a follower of the Eternals before embarking on the process of Refinement. Worship of the Old Gods is still tolerated in some circles, but most of the Refined Races remember the lapse that almost led to their destruction, and few would place their trust wholly in the demanding and unforgiving faiths that remain. Worse still are the Infernal Powers that now inhabit the World of Whispers, granting the same powers as the Gods but to darker, harsher ends.
